Review: Pinoy Explorer (TV5)

Pinoy Explorer hosted by Aga Muhlach is a cross between Kap’s Amazing Stories and Matanglawin.

It is as informative as Matanglawin, and yet uses video clips of foreign documentaries like Kap’s Amazing Stories.

It has the premise of educating and entertaining the viewers while bringing them on the scene by actually traveling to the country involved. The thought of Aga Muhlach would get lost into the wild or go digging ancient ruins got me excited. Only to learn the he is only meeting face to face with inanimate dinosaur skeletons at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center.

Where’s the fun in that?

Review: Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum (TV5)

Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum and Nasaan Ka Elisa? premiered on the same night. Back then, I wondered why ABS-CBN needed to air their crime mystery thriller already when Guns and Roses hasn't finished yet, sacrificing Showbiz News Ngayon instead.

They could've just saved SNN and waited for Guns and Roses to end before starting Nasaan Ka Elisa? Now I know why. They're scared.

With Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum, TV5 has created a viable competition to the popular shows of ABS-CBN and GMA7.

Review: Nasaan Ka Elisa? (ABS-CBN)

First of all, you should read the Nasaan Ka Elisa? Spoilers I wrote for The Yatot Chronicles.

Most, if not all, of the events I mentioned in the spoilers article should happen in the Philippine adaptation of the hit Chilean crime drama. Why? Because that's how they roll.

Although it looks like airing this kind of TV series is risky for ABS-CBN, it's really not. They have bought the franchise of a telenovela which has worked in other countries. It's meant to work.

The riskier thing for ABS-CBN to do is to change the plot.

Review: Iglot (GMA 7)

The love story of Mariella (Claudine Barretto) and Anton (Marvin Agustin) is one of the oldest love story in the book. Anton is just a farmer and Mariella's auntie doesn't approve of him. Mariella's bestfriend Ramona (Jolina Magdangal) is secretly in love with Anton. Mariella's ex-boyfriend Juancho (Luis Alandy), the Governor's son, wants her back.

Although I admire GMA 7's original concepts, I don't like how they write their dialogues. The actual script made great actors ineffective. Looks like the writers doesn't know the difference between a play and a screenplay.

Review: My Binondo Girl (ABS-CBN)

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

Let us blame Jade (Kim Chiu) for setting their residence on fire and for the death of Chen Sy II (Robi Domingo) in a car accident. She wished that she be with her father, which can't happen if the Dimaguiba family have no problem and if the heir is alive. That's why the universe had to connive and bring her what she wished for.

Nice one Jade. If you hadn't been so selfish.

Anyway, here's my review of My Binondo Girl.

Review: Big Thing (GMA 7)

Big Thing follows the journey of a TV announcer, Maureen Seo (Ko Hyun Jung), who will become the first female president of South Korea. She is not born from an influential family. She didn't also have a rich family (actually, there's no mention of her family in the series). She just wants to give justice to the death of her husband in the hands of terrorists, and all other problems that she saw around her.

It is also about the journey of Edward Ha (Kwon Sang Woo), a happy-go-lucky guy who loves dancing and doesn't know what to do with his life. Until he saw his father humiliated by a congressman. He promised he will study and become a lawyer and work in the prosecutors office to sue corrupt public officials.

Review: The Fierce Wife (ABS-CBN)

There are four things that a perfect wife can learn from Taiwanese drama The Fierce Wife.

1. Not all husbands are created perfect.
2. Being a perfect wife isn't a guarantee that your husband will be perfect too.
3. How to know early on that your husband is cheating.
4. How to get over a cheating husband and a divorce.

There are also things an imperfect husband can learn from it, like how not to get caught, but a perfect wife is not supposed to read about it here. Now on to the review of The Fierce Wife.

Review: Time of My Life (GMA 7)

Time of My Life is doing good in Mega Manila ratings, but not in the National. In any case, both ratings showed a lot of people watched the first ever danserye on Philippine television. But the question is, did the people like it?

GMA Network is promoting this drama series as a new genre of of drama, that is, a mix of drama and dance. Do you think this teleserye is enough to be called a new genre? Or is it just like any other teleserye?
