Protege - Top 30 Finalists in Face Off Round

After the provincial auditions in The Hunt round, the mentors are left with three Proteges each, completing the Top 30 Proteges.

These Top 30 Proteges competes with each other in the Face Off round where individual acts performs in from of the three judges. The judges then tell the mentors which of the three should be their Proteges that they will pit against the other mentors' Proteges.

Thus, in the end of the Face Off round, every mentor will only have one Protege each. There will only be ten Proteges competing in the next round.

How Protege (GMA 7) works - The Hunt

In Protege: The Battle for the Big Break, ten mentors are not looking for the voice or the X factor. They are only looking for their apostle, their follower.

Although it sounded big, the title of Protege seems to be a little petty compared to the titles of other singing talent search of GMA 7 such as the Pinoy Idol and Pinoy Pop Superstar.

Rumor has it that GMA 7 didn't acquired the franchise for X Factor from Fremantle Media so they have to create their own version. Employing mentors to train contestants is like the one in NBC's The Voice. While the no count and no age limit rule is similar to X Factor.

Protege: The Battle for the Big Break - The Mentors

GMA 7 is introducing a new format in reality singing shows via Protege: The Battle for the Big Break.

Ten legendary icons of the Philippine music industry will each mentor one of the contestants (can be solo, duet or group), who will battle out to be the next singing sensation.

It is not only the contestants who are striving to win, the mentors' reputation and credibility is also at stake.

Who will be the next ultimate Protege?
