Review: Nasaan Ka Elisa? (ABS-CBN)

First of all, you should read the Nasaan Ka Elisa? Spoilers I wrote for The Yatot Chronicles.

Most, if not all, of the events I mentioned in the spoilers article should happen in the Philippine adaptation of the hit Chilean crime drama. Why? Because that's how they roll.

Although it looks like airing this kind of TV series is risky for ABS-CBN, it's really not. They have bought the franchise of a telenovela which has worked in other countries. It's meant to work.

The riskier thing for ABS-CBN to do is to change the plot.

Nasaan Ka Elisa? Review

This is the first time I am writing a review hours after the first episode. Two reasons. One, because I already learned the spoilers beforehand which makes it easier for me to write this review. Two, I must write this review at once to give way to other Nasaan Ka Elisa? articles I will be writing.

The first episode of Nasaan Ka Elisa? is neatly done, almost too quiet. I noticed there are no suspenseful loud thudding sound effects used to fake the suspense. This means they trust that the story is enough to create suspense and they don't need too much accessories. I hope this will continue up to the finale.

They also relied on seasoned actors to do the job. However, Mickey Ferriols doesn't seem to look her part. I guess because her character is the most bland. She portrays the role of Vivian Rincon, a wife who is experiencing drought because her husband Joey (Christopher Roxas) prefers to sleep. She is as stereotypical as her husband is extreme.

On Melissa Ricks, I actually want to see more of her in the series. However, knowing she will be kidnapped and will be kept in one place or two, I wonder how she will give more movement and expressions as the story unfolds.

Revelations

Aside from searching for Elisa, this teleserye is about revelations. Everyone in the family circle has a secret and one by one each secret will be revealed. I am expecting there will be a big revelation every week or every other week to keep the viewers hooked.

And perhaps with the revelation of the secrets, there will be a new suspect every week. Each secret will make us think "He's hiding something, he must have done it." But most of those secrets are really irrelevant to the whereabouts of Elisa.

We havent met the police officers or detectives who will investigate and collect clues for the solution of this crime. I hope the methods they will use will be believable.

Even with the spoilers, Nasaan Ka Elisa? is still worth the watch. There are still unclear details and unanswered questions to keep us glued. I applaud ABS-CBN for this adaptation. But I hope that there will be more originals of this quality.

My rating: 3.5/5

Watch Nasaan Ka Elisa? on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida after My Binondo Girl.
